डाॅ. विश्वेश्वरैया ने चिकित्सक को सिखाया कर्तव्यपालन

भारतीय इंजीनियरिंग के पितामह डाॅ. विश्वेश्वरैया अत्यंत सरल व्यक्तित्व वाले इंसान थे। अपार लोकप्रियता व सम्मान के बावजूद विश्वेश्वरैया सामान्य ढंग से रहते थे और उन्होंने अपनी साधारणता को विशिष्टता के अहंकार में कभी खोने नहीं दिया। वे निष्पक्ष ढंग से कार्य करते थे और उनकी दृष्टि में सभी व्यक्ति समान थे। किसी खास आधार पर लोगों में परस्पर भेदभाव करना उन्हें कभी रास नहीं आता था। जब डाॅ. विश्वेश्वरैया मैसूर रियासत के दीवान थे तो एक बार किसी गाँव में उनका कैम्प लगा। डाॅ. साहब तो सेवा कार्याें में सदा अग्रणी रहते थे, इसलिए इस कैम्प में उन्होंने बड़े ही उत्साह के साथ हिस्सा लिया और खूब काम किया। एक दिन वहाँ काम करते समय उनकी उंगलियों में चोट लग गई। गाँव के चिकित्सक ने तत्काल उनकी मरहम-पट्टी की। विश्वेश्वरैया ने 25 रुपए का चेक फीस के रूप में चिकित्सक को दिया। चिकित्सक चेक लौटाते हुए बोला - मेरा सौभाग्य है कि मुझे आपकी सेवा करने का अवसर मिला। तब डाॅ. विश्वेश्वरैया उस पर बिगड़ते हुए बोले - हर मरीज की सेवा करने का अवसर आपका सौभाग्य है, ऐसा आपको महसूस करना चाहिए। जो लोग पैसा दे सकते हैं, उनसे अवश्य लें ताकि जो देने में अक्षम हैं, उनसे लेने की लालसा आप में न रहे। आपने अपना कत्र्तव्य पूरा किया है, कृपया मुझे अपना कत्र्तव्य करने दें। सार यह है कि कत्र्तव्य पालन में साधारण और विशिष्ट का अंतर न करते हुए समानता रखी जानी चाहिए ताकि उससे मिलने वाले लाभ सभी को प्राप्त हो सके।
